ZAMBEZI RIVER

The mighty Zambezi River, one of the worlds most breath taking and renowned rivers, is a majestic spectacle.
Through years of experience, the crew at Fish-On-Safaris have come to understand and know a vast amount on the Zambezi River. This has of course had the highly the desirable effect of improving its service, and most importantly its clienteles fishing along the Zambezi River.
On its surging waters you will find the awe-inspiring Victoria Falls, wandering riverine forests, rich aquatic life, prolific bird species, bountiful game, and the vast unpredictable moods of Africa. Here, too, you will also find the famed Zambezi Tiger Fish – kilo for kilo the most ferocious freshwater fighter in the world. The Zambezi River is also home to various other fish species including, Freshwater Pike and Freshwater Bream.
The natural cycle of the river provides two basic seasons. During the first season, by February, the river generally starts to rise, most often spilling the banks by March. This often results in high floods due to the very flat surrounding areas. This process, although at times destructive, is useful in so far as it provides breeding fish the opportunity to safeguard their fry in the flooded grass and shrub areas, protected from predators, until they reach a defendable size themselves. Following the floods subsiding, generally by May, the fish loose their safety and are forced back into the main river. During this time the river’s water remains warm, and the fish species are active. This makes for highly successful fishing until July, when the water begins to cool. Nonetheless, fishing remains consistent throughout the winter season, during which the rivers water levels can drop by as much as 3-4 meters. During this time, Fisherman are advised to revert back to traditional fishing styles.
The Zambezi River is often referred to in terms of its upper and lower sections. Both parts of the river have proved highly successful fishing spots, but years of experience has shown that these sections each demand its own style or technique of fishing.
Fish-On-Safaris provides safe and secure accommodation for up to 12 anglers in either private or adjoining chalets, right on the banks of the Zambezi.
